Common editor issues

What to check if your content isn't saving, or if formatting looks different after export than it did in the editor.

My content doesn’t seem to be saving

The editor saves automatically on blur, when you click or tab away from what you’re writing, rather than on every keystroke. If you’re mid-paragraph and worried about unsaved changes, click anywhere outside the editor (or move to a different chapter) and give it a moment; you should see no difference in your text, which means it saved normally. If you suspect something didn’t save, check version history for the document. Every save creates a snapshot, so you can confirm exactly what was captured and when.

My export doesn’t look like it did in the editor

A small amount of formatting difference between the editor and an exported file is expected. Word and Markdown have their own rules for how paragraphs, spacing, and lists render. If something looks substantially wrong (missing text, broken formatting, images not appearing), check that:

  • Your paragraph style preference matches what you expected (block vs. manuscript style export differently)
  • Any images in the affected section are still present in your asset library rather than archived

If it still looks wrong after checking both, that’s worth reaching out about directly rather than working around.
