Alt text, descriptions, and accessibility

Give every image a real alt text and description, for accessibility, and so you can find it again later.

Every asset carries two text fields beyond its filename, and both are worth filling in.

Alt text

Alt text describes what’s actually in the image, for screen readers and anywhere the image itself can’t be shown. Write what you’d tell someone who couldn’t see it: “a folded letter on a wooden desk,” not “image1.png.”

Description

The description field is for your own reference: where the image came from, why you added it, or what it’s meant to represent. It doesn’t show up publicly; it’s there to help you find and remember assets later, especially in a library that’s grown past a quick glance.

Editing either field

Both fields are editable from an asset’s detail page in the asset library, or from the bubble menu of an image already inserted into a document.
